Supercheap Auto Racing's Russell Ingall has been bumped from tomorrow's top 10 shootout for the Sprint Gas V8 Supercars Manufacturer Challenge at the ING Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Ingall set the tenth quickest time during this afternoon's qualifying session, but was the sixth quickest Holden having been pushed down a spot by fellow Commodore driver Rick Kelly in the session's dying moments.
With just five shootout spots open to each Holden and Ford, Ingall was relegated to 11th on the grid, with Ford's Steve Johnson taking his spot in the 10.
Team-mate Paul Morris qualified 23rd quickest, but like Ingall Morris will be relegated a minimum of two spots due to being the 13th best Holden - the grid assembled with Holdens lining up on one behind each other and Fords on the opposite side.
The Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife claimed provisional pole for Holden, the top 10 shootout at 12.45pm tomorrow afternoon.
Race 1 will begin at 3.55pm, with further races Saturday and Sunday.
Russell Ingall, #39 Supercheap Auto Racing Holden Commodore VE (Qual: 10th)
"Rick Kelly got us just on the line and pushed us out of the shootout - I thought all us Holden drivers were supposed to be mates! At least qualifying was better for us over Eastern Creek, we're giving it a go. It would have been nice to remain in the shootout, but we haven't had a lot of time with our new cars and we're using this event to test, so we're looking at the big picture. You've just got to watch out tomorrow; a lot of guys unplug the spark plug lead here, disconnect it from the brain and cause shunts. We don't want to get involved with that. We'll see how it all settles in the first two corners and play it out from there."
Paul Morris, #67 Supercheap Auto Racing Holden Commodore VE (Qual: 23rd)
"It's the fastest I've ever been around in here in qualifying, probably by two seconds! I might be down the list a bit, but I'm happy. The cars are good and Russell's done a great job. I'll look at the data, suck his brain a little for some info and try go quicker. But, overall, I'm happy, my Supercheap Auto Racing is the best car I've ever driven around Albert Park."
