Topic: New V8 Supercar Race Tracks

It has been all over the latest V8 Supercar news. The round at Barbagallo in Perth is as we all know going to end in a couple of years. Many people in the industry have called for a street race or new facility to be built to provide a round for the many fans in Perth. The WA government have shut down any talk of a street race, which leaves a new racetrack on the cards.

But this begs the question, IF Perth gets an entire new racetrack, will that mean other major cities who lack a world class racetrack will also receive a new facility? For example Sydney's Eastern Creek has been the subject of criticism and will most likely taken off the V8 Supercar calender in the near future unless the investigation into a revamp is successful.

So what do people think? Does Perth deserve a new track? And if so will it be fair to provide other major cities with the same treatment?

My personal view is that one way or another the V8 Supercar championship NEEDS a world class circuit (no not a street circuit), but like the European style ones that the F1 turn up to every single race. Preferably i would like to see a world class, permanent facility in Sydney

i would like to see a new facility at winton i am a member of the benalla auto club and i know for a fact that if tony cochrane keeps letting the v8s go to winton the facilitys there will keep being upgraded they managers at winton will put up 1 million dollars a year to upgrade with last year they spent 1.2million on electricity and it is now the only circuit apart from bathurst and the over seas rounds the V8 supercar team can jsut plug there equipment straight into the wall as they mainly use the Bigger powerful 3 pin system

I have also heard a rumour not sure if it is true or not that they could be extending the back and front straight so the cars can pull 260. by the end of 2009 or 2010

Totally agree. The tracks in Aust can not even be compared with the ones DTM or even BTCC are provided. Our tracks are totally outdated except say for Bathurst/Phillip Island

I`ve just heard an interesting piece of gossip that the Bob Jane Organisation is going to make another bid to hold a round at Calder Park again . All the new work at the facility does lend strengh to this rumour , the new drag strip beside the main straight , and all the new mounds that have been built , and the consistant rumour of suburban trains going to Sunbury ,with a station at or near Calder Park .

Very interesting twodogs, where did you hear this from? All seems to add up.

I think/hope that over the coming years the V8 Supercar calander will see many new tracks to replace the out-dated ones that are on the calander (or upgrades to current ones e.g. Eastern Creek).

i hope that none of the racks on the calender now get replaced i would like them to just slowly keep getting updated even if it is only small things that are done to keep them up to scratch if winton can pour 1 million dollars a year into facilitys (mind u they have been pulling great crowds the last few years 60000 ova the weekend) imagine wat phillip island and bigger events such as adelaide could do to there facilitys with all there money they are making hmmm???

Lets face it Aust Motorsport has outgrown the current tracks. Not all but some. I still stand behind my comments under topic (Politics and Tracks).

As i've been a sydney sider my whole life i've been to Eastern Creek many of times and not once have i had a great viewing round there (except when russell swerved at skaife (Big Nose) a few yrs back.
But over all it's a below average viewing track and it really should be updated or get rid of it... It's such a shame that in the past we've lost a great track of Amaroo and now Oran Park... why is it that the besy Sydney tracks are the ones to go??? Even bloody Winton is a way better viewing track... tho shame it's in the middle of no where and it has no room for the v8's but still a great track thats not been used to it's full potential... I say 2 rounds at Bathurst....hahahaha.... If you can't beat it then join it!!!

Lauren I agree. The loss of Amaroo was due to property development as is Oran Park. Both circuits were and are enjoyable. John Cotton of ARDC has enlisted overseas designers to assess Eastern Creek. We will just have to wait and see what happens. The designs presently on the table looks pretty good. Funny you should mention Bathurst for 2 rounds. This did happen back in the past With the Easter Weekend and October Long weekend but was short lived. In fact it was pretty good having sprint races on the
mountain at Easter. As for Winton much money is needed if this track is even considered as appropriate.
Mattforcer appears confident they can improve track but geez from a viewing point of view for T.V viewers as this time it does not even rank

Sorry to Butt in again but Mattforcer made comment to Phillip Island in a earlier post. No I have not been to this circuit but I believe your views are pretty well shared. My comments related to the layout of the track which is pretty good. The Fox family have pretty extensive views for development of this circuit and I have never seen them lose a quid. Maybe this is the way all tracks may have to go (Privatelly owned).

P.Island is a great track tho i've only been there twice for Moto GP but i'm sure the v8's would be good there aswell!! I'm not really sure that the answer is all tracks go Privatelly owned because both Amaroo and oran park where and look where thats got us?? I don't always agree with the government but atleast with them owning tracks i don't think it'd be as easy for them to sell the tracks without us all putting up a fight.. and lastly if there going to get rid of a track for every then bloody Barbagallo is THE WORST TRACK I'VE EVERY BEEN TO!!!!! Not even taking into consideration when i went this year when it was a raining weekend and the travel to get to the track was a joke... but as i said in another post it was just shocking all up... having to weave in and out of gates showing your pass every time just to walk around the track, the viewing for corporate is GREAT but for us general public is PATHETIC! Lucky i was able to spend the day in the Carrera Cup lunch tent and watch the race because if i hadnt i would have been a very wet and unhappy person...

Lauren the only problem with Govt owned tracks is funding. Convincing the Govt of a viable venture would be like extracting teath.

At least with private interests if convinced the tracks would be improved or constructed in such a manner that would be viable. Afterall at this time we have Plillip Island owned by the Fox family,Calder Park owned by the Jane Corporation whom TwoDogs made mention was being worked upon.

What we need is stand alone circuits to cater for all criteria. I do not think you will find much arguement regarding Barbagello.
Remember Townsville is Govt funded 2.8Klms long when they had sufficient room in Reid Park area to showcase a really good circuit.

True... I just really hate to see good tracks go down the drain because people want to build homes on our lovely tracks.... Shits me!

Thats why they should be in deemed Green Belt Areas
Lauren

You know i'm now going to ask what a green belt area is?
Commodore S

Land zoned non commercial and excluded from housing development. In other words area designed for public recreation such as sports events. Motor Racing falls under this criteria and circuits can be built and developed subject to Govt approval.

This is what W.A is looking at to replace Barbagello if need be
