Russell Ingall has re-ignited the parity debate between Holden and Ford.

I dont know too much on the issue.

But after hearing what Russ had to say, it does make sense about what he has said.

The Fords have been quite quicker at recent rounds. But is that down to parity? Im not sure

What are peoples thoughts?

Michael parity virtually relates to the Aero Dynamics of the cars. Whilst I am certainly a supporter of
Russell i doubt if it can be taken into consideration for the nature of a track such as QLD Raceway.

On the quicker circuits it can certainly be an issue.

QLD is more of a technical circuit where suspension settings are paramount due to its nature of being
bumpy.

I think Russell did particularly well in practice.(Leading Commodore) and lets hope qualifying is just as well if not better.

Regards.

Well Russell kind of proved himself wrong this weekend (in regard to his parity comments)

He took it to the Fords, especially Frosty in that final race. Just a shame that his tires lost it a bit at the end.

But there is no denying that after the pitstops (in race three) that Russ was faster than Frosty.

Well MichaelVT it looks as if we are all going to get a lesson on parity which as I stated relates to Aero Dynamics of the individual cars which are supposed to be identical whether it be Red or Blue.

Whilst we thought Russell was the only figure pointing the finger at this subject apparently the whole of GMH Teams were in discussion over the matter following Data that representatives from GMH and respective teams had been resourcing. I do not know how they guage parity but I would consider It would be quite technical and time consuming. To my knowledge no wind tunnell exists in Aust that is why teams send their cars overseas for aero Data which is presented to V8SCA for approval.Although apparently the testing to the new Ford was done at Woomera.

As I said parity is extremely technical and would play a huge difference in performance on the fast tracks approaching- Phillip Island/Bathurst/Bahrain. Now apparently this parity concern was originally raised by HRT together with GMH at QLD following a meeting held by all GMH Teams voicing their concerns.

This concern was then presented to V8SCA at QLD.

V8SCA have now considered since the matter has been made public to look at the situation on 5/9/08.

If their is an issue with parity and I say IF it should have been dealt with long before this. I do not think it would be the intention of Ford to cross the boundary as they would have considered the repercussions but with development and new technology being introduced who can be absolutely sure something unknown has been introduced which does enhance the individual car and they have crossed the boundary without knowing.GMH are adament they have.

Why have V8SCA not jumped upon this apprehension when confronted formally which was at QLD (How long Ago).We are presently in a six week break which surely would have been sufficient time to view and assess. Now we have HRT and other GMH teams requesting Bathurst be delayed until The V8SCA assess the matter and provide the relative Data to void their dispute that the Ford is not in a better position to compete.

The Drivers association whom is represented by Paul Morris is also voicing their opinions along the same lines. I consider the matter may escalate into one of animosity which is not good for the sport and become quite nasty. If the V8SCA had taken steps immediately the present position would have remained behind closed doors and all interested parties satisfied. Now we have further contoversy in the sport which is suffering sufficient distress.

Regards to all and any comment on this matter by members of the forum I would hope be forhcoming as this is the area to vent your views as supporters of the sport and SCAR/PMMS.

Funny how Ford has managed to wrap up the manufacturers championship with three rounds to go.

No parity issue there.

As we speak steps are in transit to rectify 2009 season.

Despite Mr Cochranes insistence that their is no issue and the use of a wind tunnel would not be considered to relate parity between the new Ford and VE two teams 888 and HRT have formed an alliance to ensure parity is in order without question in 2009. Good on them I say.

Why 888? despite FPR receiving Ford funding they actually enlisted 888s technical expertise to build the new ford from the ground up including the aero package.

Whilst the new Ford has been tested with regard to parity this was done by Ford at Woomera and 888 is not convinced the results are totally correct as they were excluded as to result due to the rift that has developed between Roland Dane and Ford.

At present 888 are preparing 5 cars for outside competitors and will not release them until such time they are assured in their own minds that their respected worldwide tecknical knowledge is not held in ill repute.

Therefore as I say 888 and HRT have gone outside the boudaries to have an independant body assess the cars in race trim at an offshore location with worlwide wind tunnel facilities.

Teams acknowledge the VE has a drag component however the people responsible within our sport to monitor this aspect are in denial.

Whilst we have a series which spends millions our facilities within Aust for this issue is archaic.. It is computer orientated and does not give a full picture of a cars performance.

To explain the basics front downforce is limited to 30kg and can not be varied through adjustment. The Rear wing has a maximun downforce of 170Kg and may be varied downwards up to 15% depending on the team. This is evaluated on vehicle speed 200 kmh. Above 200kmh their is no foolproof system which can evaluate airflow surrounding the vehicles in Aust.
.
The previous real parity test was some 5 years ago and it required the Commodore shave the under portion of the front spoiler as it was found to be outside the parameters.

With both HRT and 888 creating this alliance lets hope the 2009 season is based on fair ground with unquestionable views on parity.

One thing I do ask. Is it not the onus of V8SCA to ensure these issues are not shown the appropriate priority without teams showing sportsmanship and expending their own funds for the validity of the sport.
